Artist's Comments
I finished this in January but never got around to taking the pictures I wanted of it, so I'll post these instead. This is the dead fox that I was given (died of some unknown disease - suspected distemper?) and decided to try my hands at taxidermy with. There are WIP shots in my scraps gallery. And if anyone wants to try to claim that taxidermy isn't an art form...well...then I guess I don't know what art is. XD
This project was painstakingly lengthy, painful physically and mentally, and extremely fun! I am dying to start some other taxidermy project but alas...living in a small rented apartment makes things difficult. Anyway. More shots here: [link] It ain't perfect, but I still like how it came out anyways. It's nice having a pseudo pet fox hanging around my room *Also - do NOT collect diseased deadthings!! It's not a good idea and I consider myself an idiot for doing so. Do not not not not NOT risk your health.* |

and so they worry if it was purposely killed just to become an item. that is why taxidermy is not widely accepted, nor fur coats and such. so most here say taxidermy is not an art (maybe they would say, "taxidermy is just another form of murder")
however, you did quite well on this... i will treat this as I do any other lovely deviation and say even the photograph is crisp and clean *u*
the eye's shine is very nice ;u; ( i do not like taxidermy but you are very well good at it ;w; )

Very natural!

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog."
And I respect you for doing taxidermy on an animal that died naturally!
Yeah, I don't really understand people against taxidermy if it died naturally...to me, it's like preserving the beauty of nature forever, not violating it...
But like I said, great job.
also i do agree that it's good to use all the animal's body parts ;u; your opinion sheds a new light on how I view taxidermy, now that I think about it. As long as the owner is respectful of the body, it is fine with me then.
I am glad to hear it had died from natural causes and not somehow a very clean road-kill type thing or it being shot and whatever.
Over the years I have just decided everything deserves a second look in a different "direction" or "light". So you're very welcome!
