This is a little old (actually only a year), but it was done for a ceramics class I took at school. Pot-making isn't really my thing, so I chose to make my coil pot assignment into something a little more interesting...for me at least. So this is ma yote - completely hollow inside so if I choose I could use him as a vase and put flowers in his mouth. As of yet he has not had the honor, but maybe some day. Coil pots, for those of you who don't know, are are pots in which the artist starts with a flat clay base and then stacks coils that follow the edge of that base on top of each other and smooths them together to make the walls.
I rather like him, considering he's my first real clay project. He is intended to be a little stylized version of a Western yote. He's fat because he's supposed to be poofy.
I did not, however, particularly like how the glaze came out. The color is that of Tootsie Rolls and it's a lot thicker than I wanted it to be..looks almost globby in some areas and makes him look even fatter than he originally was.
... And I thought I was impressive for making a coil pot in the shape of a stereotypical fat vase. o.o I'd love to see him holding flowers. xD I bet that would be cute~
Awesomely done dude! I found your page by googling coil pots. I too have to make a coil pot in sculpture class. I like your idea. It must have taken u a while to make tho!
Oh my god! With /coiling?/ You're absolutely amazing. I would have thought you used another method to make this but now I'm thinking about it and the coil method is very strong and stable.
O_O Oh my gosh! That is wonderful. *stares, drools* Just...amazing work. I can't believe that's a coiled pot. Fantastic work. It's beautiful, and cute. ^^
